SWEP B327 Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Up to 1000 kW of Heat Reuse

B327 is the largest of the recent introductions and the one with a headline number attached.

The headline frame of the recent introductions. 693 x 243 mm, up to 260 plates and 365.44 GPM, stated by SWEP for data center heat capture, thermal storage, heating substations and tap water stations up to 1000 kW.

SWEP states it can capture excess heat from data centers, thermal storage, heating substations and tap water stations up to 1000 kW. The NSC material code reflects a mixed build - 316 channel plates with 304 cover plates - and the pack is asymmetric. Where a network will take the heat, this frame turns a rejection path into a revenue line.

NSC is a mixed build. 316 channel plates with 304 cover plates, asymmetric 0.233/0.265 dm3 channels, copper brazing, threaded, Victaulic and flange connections, PED, UL and KHK approvals.

Reading the part number. A B327 is ordered as a full string - frame, plate type, plate count, pass arrangement, materials and pressure class, for example B327AH/1P-NSC-Y. Every field is decodable: the model number guide explains each one, and the string off your nameplate, complete or partial, is enough for us to confirm the build and quote it.

Confirming Fit on a B327 Replacement

The B327 measures 693 x 243 mm (27.28 x 9.57 in) over the plate pack, with port centres of 598 x 148 mm (23.54 x 5.83 in). Connections on the catalogued builds: Threaded, Victaulic, Flange.

SWEP publishes the weight as 7.61 kg plus 0.454 kg per plate, so the plate count off the nameplate sets what the mounting has to carry.

Large ports and a 693 mm frame put the piping loads up with the structural steel - design the supports off the flooded weight, not the shipping weight.

Replacing a B327

Large liquid-to-liquid heat transfer where the two flows are unequal: heat reuse into a network, thermal storage charging, substations. The asymmetric channels, 0.233 and 0.265 dm3, let the higher-flow circuit take the larger passage.

Look elsewhere if either fluid rules out copper braze, as ammonia and deionized water do.

Two things to settle before ordering. The published approvals are PED, UL and KHK, so a tap-water duty that requires a potable-water certification has to be raised at the quote. And the published example carries pressure class Y, which is not one of the common letters. Call for rating and give us the design pressure so the unit is quoted against a figure.

By circulation, one side at a time, with the exchanger isolated. On a substation or tap-water station the side that needs it is the one heating raw water, where hardness scales out on the plates. The network side, on treated water, usually stays clean.

The size of the frame affects the equiptment. A cleaning rig that suits a small exchanger will not turn over a pack that normally passes up to 83 m3/h fast enough to carry loosened scale out. Use a pump that gives real velocity through the channels, run it in reverse flow, and use a cleaner that is safe for copper braze.

Debris is a seperate matter. Keep it out with a strainer finer than the 0.8 mm particle limit.

Yes. The channels are asymmetric, so the two sides are not equivalent. The selection assigns each circuit to a side, and the connection positions on the drawing follow from that. Swapping them on site puts the larger flow through the smaller channel, and the pressure drop on that circuit comes out well above the calculated figure.

Pipe it counter-current, mount it vertical so it vents and drains, and set the exchanger before fitting the pipe to it, so no spool is pulled into line against the ports. See mounting and piping.

Face size and port centres are fixed: 693 x 243 mm and 598 x 148 mm. The pack depth depends on the plate count, so a replacement with a different count has a different depth. Measure the old pack front to back, and measure the clearance behind it.

Then check what the supports will carry. A 260-plate unit is about 126 kg (277 lb) dry and holds roughly 64 liters, so it runs near 190 kg full of water.

Confirm the connection type against the pipe: threaded, Victaulic or flange. We hold no catalogued part numbers for this frame, so the build is confirmed from the nameplate designation at the quote.
