SWEP B25T Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

The Frame to Check Against First

If one frame defines the middle of the SWEP line it is B25T - more configurations, more plate counts and more distributor stock than anything else.

More stock than anything else in the range. 526 x 119 mm, up to 140 plates and 39.63 GPM. Eighty catalogued configurations are on file for this frame - more than any other - most of them behind 1" NPT threads.

That also makes it the frame most likely to be available without a lead time. A typical real string reads B25THx30/1P-SC-M with 16 mm, 22 mm universal solder and two 1 inch NPT connections. If you are replacing an unknown brazed unit on a hydronic loop, this is the frame to check against first - the odds are good.

The widest connection menu in the mid range. Threaded, Victaulic, solder and ultra-high variants are all catalogued, on 304 plates with copper brazing and PED, UL and KHK approvals.

Reading the part number. A B25T is ordered as a full string - frame, plate type, plate count, pass arrangement, materials and pressure class, for example B25TH/1P-NC-M. Every field is decodable: the model number guide explains each one, and the string off your nameplate, complete or partial, is enough for us to confirm the build and quote it.

Confirming Fit on a B25T Replacement

The B25T measures 526 x 119 mm (20.71 x 4.69 in) over the plate pack, with port centres of 479 x 72 mm (18.86 x 2.83 in). Connections on the catalogued builds: Threaded, Victaulic, Solder, Ultra High Pressure, Combo.

SWEP publishes the weight as 2.13 kg plus 0.1775 kg per plate, so the plate count off the nameplate sets what the mounting has to carry.

Stock plate counts step through the catalogue range, so a nameplate count can usually be matched exactly rather than approximated.

Things to Check on a B25T

Nearly all are. The datasheet example is B25TH/1P-NC-M and the catalogued strings on file are overwhelmingly /1P.

It matters because the exceptions exist. At least one catalogued string on file carries a /D arrangement, a dual build. It has the same face as a /1P unit, but the circuiting inside is different, the port layout is different, and neither can stand in for the other.

By measurement and by what was connected to it. A B25T is 526 x 119 mm with port centres at 479 x 72 mm. The V25 is close - 524 x 116 mm - so measure to the millimeter, and note whether one side carried refrigerant, since the V25 is built for demanding cooling duties.

The trailing T is not a footnote. B25T and B25 are different plate generations, physically different plates, so one is not a drop-in for the other even at the same plate count. Finally, check the material: the datasheet build is 304 (NC), the catalogued builds on file are 316/316L (SC), and the plate will not tell you which by eye. Tell us the fluid and we will confirm.

Vertically, with the 526 mm dimension upright, and with the two streams entering at opposite ends so they run counter-current. Piped co-current the unit still transfers heat, but the approach opens up and a boiler-isolation or domestic hot water duty that was sized properly comes up short.

Treat it as a piece of equipment to be supported. A 50-plate B25T is about 11 kg (24 lb) before it is filled. Carry it on a bracket and bring the pipes to it without strain, with unions or flanges close by so it can be removed. See Mounting and Piping.

The complete string, including everything after the pressure class letter. On this frame the connection group does a lot of the identifying: 4x1", 4x1"(45), 4x1"&22U and 2x22U+2x1"&22U are all catalogued, and they are four different units with the same plates. The class letter matters as much, since M, S and Y builds are all on file.

If you are matching by duty instead of nameplate, send both fluids, the flow and the inlet and outlet temperature on each side, the pressure drop you can spare and the system design pressure.

Yes, provided the string matches. The face is 526 x 119 mm (20.71 x 4.69 in) and the ports are on 479 x 72 mm centres (18.86 x 2.83 in) for every B25T. Depth is the dimension that moves: it grows with plate count, so the same count gives the same pack depth.

Changing the count is where fit is lost. Going from a small pack to a large one pushes the back cover toward the wall and changes the load: a 100-plate unit is about 19.9 kg (43.8 lb) dry, and the frame runs to 140 plates. Check the clearance behind the unit and the bracket rating before upsizing. Check too how far the connections project, which varies with connection type.

These models are catalogued alongside the B25T. Each has its own page with its dimensions, materials and part numbers.
