SWEP B200T Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers

Two Circuits, Two Passes, One Exchanger

D2P means dual circuit over two passes - two refrigerant circuits, each making two passes of the pack.

The dual-over-two-pass member of the 525 x 243 family. Up to 250 plates and 192.41 GPM on the footprint it shares with the B45 and B120T.

It is a configuration that only makes sense at some scale, which is why it appears here and on the B12 rather than on the small frames. For a staged chiller that needs a close approach on both circuits, it is the arrangement to ask about, and it removes a second exchanger and its pipework from the bill of materials.

Compact flange and Victaulic options. 316/316L plates with copper brazing, threaded and solder connections also catalogued; PED, UL and KHK approvals.

Reading the part number. A B200T is ordered as a full string - frame, plate type, plate count, pass arrangement, materials and pressure class, for example B200TH/D2P-SC-S. Every field is decodable: the model number guide explains each one, and the string off your nameplate, complete or partial, is enough for us to confirm the build and quote it.

Confirming Fit on a B200T Replacement

The B200T measures 525 x 243 mm (20.67 x 9.57 in) over the plate pack, with port centres of 448.50 x 163.50 mm (17.66 x 6.44 in). Connections on the catalogued builds: Threaded, Victaulic, Solder, Combo.

SWEP publishes the weight as 12.62 kg plus 0.4 kg per plate, so the plate count off the nameplate sets what the mounting has to carry.

A D2P pack is not reversible into a single-circuit duty - confirm the circuit arrangement on the nameplate before quoting a swap.

Things to Check on a B200T

SWEP publishes the B200T with PED, UL and KHK approvals. What matters on site is the nameplate on the delivered unit: its stamped design pressure and temperature have to cover the system's relief setting and its highest operating temperature.

Check the pressure class before ordering a replacement. The builds we have on file are S and M. S is the 31 bar at 155 C category; M goes up to 45 bar at 135 C and is fatigue tested for refrigerants such as R410A. Putting an S unit where an M came out is the mistake that fails inspection, or fails later in service. Pressure classes explains the letters.

Start with the letters in front of the number. F200T, P200T and V200T are evaporator models built on the same 525 x 243 mm plate, and DB200, DP200 and DV200 are True Dual units with a lower flow ceiling. A missing first letter can turn a correct quote into the wrong product.

Next, the pass field. D2P is two circuits over two passes, while 1P is single pass, and the two are piped differently.

The connection string helps when the rest is gone. Two of our catalogued builds read 35.1 + 54.3&60 solder on one side with 2x2 1/2 in on the other; the plain version is 2 in all round. Copy any bracketed suffix such as (54) exactly as stamped.

Each channel holds 0.241 dm3 on either side. A pack has one channel fewer than it has plates, split about evenly between the two sides, so a 150-plate B200T holds roughly 18 liters per side. On a D2P build the refrigerant side is divided again between the two circuits.

On the refrigerant side that volume is charge. It counts toward the system charge and affects how much liquid has to be managed at shutdown. On the water or glycol side it is thermal mass: a small volume responds quickly to a load change, and it also has very little heat to give up before it freezes if flow is lost. Use it for the glycol fill calculation too.

One with openings smaller than the published 1 mm particle limit, on the inlet of every water or glycol circuit. Anything larger than the limit can lodge at the channel entries and it does not come back out.

Blockage rarely shows as a sudden failure. A few channels plug, flow shifts to the others, and the pressure drop barely moves while capacity falls. On an evaporator the starved channels are where freezing starts.

Fit test ports across both the strainer and the exchanger.

These models are catalogued alongside the B200T. Each has its own page with its dimensions, materials and part numbers.
