Installation and Service

Mounting orientation, port order, cleaning in place and the one failure mode that destroys a brazed evaporator outright.

  • Mounting and Piping: Most installation errors on brazed plate units come down to two things: mounting a two-phase unit the wrong way up, and connecting the ports in the wrong order.
  • Cleaning in Place: A brazed unit cannot be opened, so everything about keeping it working comes down to two things: keeping solids out, and cleaning in place before fouling becomes permanent.
  • Freeze Protection: Freezing splits plates and there is no repair.

Most field problems are not thermal. Mounting, piping loads, strainers and freeze protection decide whether a correct selection stays correct.

On the Bench and In the Line

If the question is about a unit already in the line, describe the installation: which port each pipe lands on, the orientation, what strainer sits ahead of it, and what the unit is doing that it should not. Add flows and temperatures as measured and a photo of the nameplate, and we can tell an installation fault from the wrong exchanger.
