The SWEP B5AS is a very small copper-brazed unit for low flow rates where space is tight. It uses SWEP's patented AsyMatrix asymmetric plate technology to get more heat transfer out of a given footprint and weight, and it is used as a small oil or water cooler.
A palm-sized frame for low flows. The B5AS measures 193 x 76 mm (7.6 x 2.99 in) with port centres at 154 x 40 mm, takes up to 60 plates and has a published maximum flow of 4 m3/h (17.61 GPM).
The two sides of a B5AS are not the same. AsyMatrix means asymmetric channels: SWEP publishes channel volumes of 0.022 and 0.028 liters for the two sides, so which fluid goes on which side is part of the rating. The B5T has the identical 193 x 76 mm outline and the same 17.61 GPM ceiling, and the E5T, E5AS and B5 are within a few millimeters. The mistake is treating any of them as a drop-in for a B5AS, or reconnecting a B5AS with the circuits swapped - it fits, and it then runs short on capacity or high on pressure drop. "AS" here means AsyMatrix, not All-Stainless.
316/316L plates, copper braze, six connection families. SWEP publishes threaded, Threaded Ultra High Approved, solder, combo, hose and weld connections for the B5AS, with PED, UL and KHK approvals. The example designation is B5ASH/1P-SC-M.
What the nameplate tells us. Every B5AS carries its build in the designation: plate type, plate count, pass arrangement, materials and pressure class. The model number guide walks through the fields.
Best for small oil or water coolers at low flow where the exchanger has to fit a tight space.

The B5AS measures 193 x 76 mm (7.6 x 2.99 in) over the plate pack, with port centres of 154 x 40 mm (6.06 x 1.57 in). Connections on the catalogued builds: Threaded, Threaded Ultra High Approved, Solder, Combo, Hose, Weld.
SWEP publishes the weight as 0.50 kg plus 0.044 kg per plate, so the plate count off the nameplate sets what the mounting has to carry.
On a frame this small the neighbouring models differ by only a few millimeters, so measure the cover plate and the port centres carefully rather than by eye. The connection type has to match - this model is published with several, from hose to weld - and depth grows with plate count. Each circuit must return to the side it came from, because the two channel sides are different.
