The SWEP B5 is a brazed plate heat exchanger for small flows where extreme compactness matters, typically as a small oil or water cooler. The configuration SWEP publishes is nickel brazed, which makes it a copper-free unit on a 187.5 x 72.5 mm face.
One of the smallest frames in the range. The B5 measures 187.5 x 72.5 mm (7.38 x 2.85 in) with port centres of 154 x 40 mm (6.06 x 1.57 in). It takes up to 61 plates and a maximum flow of 4 m3/h (17.61 GPM).
The braze is what sets the B5 apart. The B5T, B5AS, E5T and E5AS on the same frame are copper-brazed units; the B5 configuration SWEP publishes, and the one build on file, is nickel brazed (material code SN). Nickel braze is copper free, so it serves fluids that attack or leach copper. The mistake to avoid runs in both directions: fitting a copper-brazed 5-size unit where a B5 came out puts copper into a circuit that was built to exclude it, and the B5 is also a few millimetres smaller on the face than the 193 x 76 mm B5T and B5AS, so brackets may not transfer.
316 plates, nickel braze, threaded or solder. SWEP publishes the B5 with 316 stainless plates and threaded, Threaded Ultra High Approved and solder connections. The build on file is SN material in pressure class M with a 4x3/4"&16 combo connection.
Reading the designation. A B5 is ordered as a full string, for example B5Hx10/1P-SN-M 4x3/4"&16. The model number guide decodes each field, and the string off the nameplate - whole or partial - is enough to confirm the build.
Small oil or water cooling where space is tight and copper must be kept out of the circuit.

The B5 measures 187.5 x 72.5 mm (7.38 x 2.85 in) over the plate pack, with port centres of 154 x 40 mm (6.06 x 1.57 in). Connections on the catalogued builds: Threaded, Threaded Ultra High Approved, Solder.
SWEP publishes the weight as 0.50 kg plus 0.04 kg per plate, so the plate count off the nameplate sets what the mounting has to carry.
Match the port centres and the connection type as well as the face dimensions; a combo connection accepts two joining methods, so check which one the existing pipework uses. Depth grows with plate count, so confirm the count on the nameplate. On this model the material code has to match too - a copper-brazed look-alike fits the same pipes and is the wrong unit.
